Inmate killed crime partner in jail over beedi dispute

LUDHIANA: Five days after the mysterious death of 18-year-old undertrial Prakash Chand, whose body used to be found inside of the bathroom within the Ludhiana Central Jail, police have found that he used to be in reality murdered through a fellow inmate and his crime partner following a dispute over 'beedi'.

Division No 7 police have booked inmate Deepak Daliya, 18, of Islamgunj, who used to be earlier arrested along with Prakash in a snatching case. Prakash and Deepak have been neighbours.


According to prison officers, Deepak has confessed to his crime. He has stated that about six months ago, they'd a combat right through which Deepak had attacked Prakash with sharp-edged weapon. But later, they patched up again and started executing crimes together.


Central prison superintendent Shamsher Singh Boparai stated, "Deepak and Prakash were brought to the jail from the juvenile home together. After death of Prakash, we initiated investigation during which we identified that Deepak and Prakash had a scuffle in jail that day."


The respectable stated, "Deepak and Prakash who were lodged in barrack number 4 went to another barrack to meet inmates Varinder Kataria and Mani. All four had stayed together in the juvenile home. Kataria had beedis with him. But as Prakash asked Kataria not to give beedi to Deepak, a heated argument between Deepak and Prakash ensued after which Prakash slapped Deepak. But other inmates were able to pacify them."



Thereafter when Prakash went to bathroom, Deepak and any other inmate Somnath followed him. While Somnath used to be status outside, Deepak pushed Prakash. Parkash's head smashed against the wall and his neck hit a faucet following which he misplaced his awareness. Later, Deepak strangulated him to death with his blouse and went back to his barrack, Boparai claimed.



Importantly, first of all the prison officers were not able to imagine it to be a murder case, however they initiated investigations after you have the post-mortem file which urged strangulation as reason for death. Deepak has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and would be on a manufacturing warrant, stated ACP (East) Pawanjit Chaudhary.
