MUMBAI: A 30-year-old lady and her sweetheart's father bravely fought off a knife-wielding man who broke into their Nalasopara flat on Sunday afternoon and controlled to get him caught. Both suffered slash wounds inflicted by the accused, later recognized as Mohammed Azghar (25), an electrician from Navi Mumbai who had visited their home three days ago to mend an inverter.
The complainant, Preeti Mishra, used to be admitted to a non-public clinic and administered stitches on her face and proper hand; she used to be discharged on Monday night time. Her sweetheart's father Jayprakash (63) suffered slash wounds at the neck and chest.
The incident took place round 2.30pm, when Preeti and her more youthful daughter have been takeing a nap within the bedroom in their floor ground flat in Sri Prastha building in Nalasopara (W). Her elder daughter went out to play and left the main door ajar. The police said Azghar, who used to be within the building for some paintings, spotted the open door and sneaked in. He entered the bedroom where Preeti and her daughter have been sleeping and attempted to open the cupboard. When he failed, he slashed Preeti, who woke up with a start and screamed. Jayprakash, who used to be in poor health and had returned home from paintings, used to be within the different bedroom. He bumped into their room to discover a man standing over the bed with a knife in his hand and Preeti with deep gashes at the face and fingers.
Jayprakash said he attempted to grab Azghar, however the latter slashed him at the neck and chest too. Jayprakash controlled to succeed in the balcony in a bid to name out to neighbours for help, however Azghar dragged him back into the living room. "I managed to grab his wrist and pull him down and then pinned him down," said Jayprakash. His daughter, who used to be also at home, ran out of the flat and alerted the neighbours, who rushed in and nabbed Azghar.
They then informed the police, who arrested him and booked him below IPC sections 459 (inflicting hurt during trespass) and 397 (robbery with try to motive death or grievous hurt). He has been remanded to two days police custody by the Vasai courtroom.
Azghar has no legal record, said the police.
