Coimbatore: Land acquisition for the Ukkadam flyover has collected tempo with the town company issuing eviction notices to residents of CMC Colony.
The civic frame has issued notices to 209 residents who're dwelling within the locality for more than 40 years.
While the residents who were issued eviction notice can be moved to the housing devices of the Tamil Nadu slum clearance board, the land can be passed over to the highways department for the construction of Ukkadam flyover.
For the undertaking, a four-lane flyover can be constructed from Vincent Road Junction to Karumbukadai Junction for about 1.48km, whilst it could have a loop reverse to previous Vincent Road for about 388m and a two-lane from Naaz Theatre to Vincent Road for about 248m, in line with the highways department. The flyover can be for a complete of one.97km.
The civic frame had already got rid of 28 stores, and eviction notice was given to last stores between Naaz Theatre and Ukkadam police station, stores in fruit marketplace and over 60 residing devices of Washermen Colony.
“In order to provide land to the highways department for the flyover undertaking, we've got issued notices to the sanitary staff who were dwelling on the colony for over 40 years,” said a senior official from the company, including that the homes which are close to the slaughterhouses can be demolished for street extension.
Alternative lodging can be provided for the residents through the slum clearance board at Malumichampatti, the official said, including that the residents were directed to vacate the places inside 15 days.
Upon failing to vacate, essential movements can be taken, the official said, including that the fruit stores that were given eviction notices can be got rid of inside a month time. The fruit stores can be moved to the new premises close to the fish marketplace.
Meanwhile, the town site visitors police cleared obstructions close to the Ukkadam police station. As many as six fruit stalls had encroached about two toes of street, thus causing obstruction to the site visitors float, an official said.
