Madras high court ruling on 18 MLAs’ fate may put Tamil Nadu politics in a flux

CHENNAI: The Madras prime courtroom will pronounce the verdict in the 18 legislators' disqualification case on Thursday, ending virtually five months of wait after the judgment used to be reserved. The first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar is most probably to provide the judgment around 1pm.

The verdict would throw up a number of chances. If the MLAs lose the case, the federal government would keep. Its vulnerability will, however, be uncovered in the next byelections to the 18 assembly segments. If the MLAs win the case and vote against the federal government, it would fall. In the 234-member assembly, if all the participants vote, the federal government would want 117 votes (with the exception of the speaker) for a simple majority. That is four more than its present tally of 113 MLAs.

Indicating how the game may well be played out in the event that they win the case, rise up chief Thangatamilselvan informed TOI that his purpose isn't to drag down "Amma's government", but to get what's because of them.

‘With a lot to lose, MLAs will enhance govt’

A majority of rebels seem to be all in favour of simply riding a difficult cut price with leader minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. The Centre, too, doesn’t seem to be all in favour of destabilising the federal government.

Since the disqualification, the power matrix has changed in the rise up camp. Many some of the 18 MLAs have been murmuring about T T V Dhinakaran’s authoritarian way of functioning. V Dhivaharan, another power centre in the Mannargudi circle of relatives, has revolted against Dhinakaran. None of the rebels are assured of profitable another election in the event that they pull down the federal government. “Like us, they too know their weakness. When there may be not anything to realize and far to lose, the rise up MLAs would come around and enhance the federal government,” said a senior minister.

DMK president M Karunanidhi has no longer been attending the assembly complaints for more than a 12 months owing to sick health, but DMK spokesman T K S Elangovan informed TOI that if the placement calls for, Karunanidhi could be delivered to the assembly to solid vote”.
