MUMBAI: A Colaba-based legal professional, who activated her debit card at a local ATM kiosk found Rs 40,000 withdrawn from her account 10 minutes later. When she complained to the card-issuing bank, the sum was credited to her account in a fortnight, simplest to be debited once again. My husband dialled the bank’s customer care and were given the cardboard blocked. As it was a weekend, we visited the bank two days later to replenish a dispute form. I gave a written grievance to the Colaba police,” she mentioned.


On April 9, the bank credited the disputed sum of Rs 40,000 to her account. “I used to be below the impression that the matter was resolved, but it surely wasn’t. On April 12 and on April 13, the bank workers referred to as us up and advised us to test CCTV photos of the ATM kiosk. Then, without any prior realize, the sum of Rs 40,000 was again debited from my account on April 13,” Shamina mentioned. The couple followed up with the bank and went to view the CCTV photos at their branch on April 18.


“The photos confirmed an individual status on the door of the kiosk once we were activating our card on the device. At five.40pm, when the fraudulent transaction took place, we weren’t noticed on digicam so it’s transparent that we did not perform the transaction. Two males withdrew some money from a device on the excessive right of the kiosk and left in a hurry. It’s not transparent from which device was my cash withdrawn and how. The police refused to register an FIR,” mentioned Shamina.


When contacted by TOI, the bank mentioned it might need 48 hours to test and remark.
