Mangaluru tops in elderly abuse: Survey

BENGALURU: Elderly people in Mangaluru face the utmost quantity of abuse within the country. Topping the record of abusers are their sons, presentations ‘Elder Abuse in India-2018’, a survey launched on Thursday through NGO HelpAge India.

Mangaluru reported 47% of abuse with senior voters complaining of harassment of different forms. The other cities have been Ahmedabad (46%), Bhopal (39%), Amritsar (35%), Delhi (33%), Kanpur (30%), Chennai (27%), Bengaluru (26%), Hyderabad (24%) and Kolkata (23%).


The maximum commonplace kinds of abuse skilled through the aged people have been disrespect, verbal abuse, overlook, economic exploitation and bodily assault such as beating and slapping. Elderly persons seem to be safe in cities like Jammu (12%), Mumbai (13%), Vizag (13%), Kochi (15%) and Guwahati (17%).

The average age of abuser is 42. Over 50% of the abusers are skilled workers and working execs.

About 65% elders said youngsters giving extreme attention to phones/computers is disrespectful whilst 73% felt ‘their youngsters are too busy on telephone even if they're at home with them’. More than 60% of the aged people agreed that high quality time spent through their youngsters and grandchildren with them decreased greatly and 78% elders blamed social media for this, the record said.
