More cocaine seized after stricter booze law?

As Gujarat tightens its chokehold on liquor provide, medication comparable to cocaine are being squeezed into the state to deliver dry highs. According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), 243g of cocaine was once seized in Vadodara on June 10 last 12 months, three days prior to the state notified the principles of the Gujarat Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2017. A week later, 587g of cocaine was once seized on the Ahmedabad railway station from a Nigerian national. While the NCB has seized a complete of 835g of cocaine since June 2017, there was no earlier seizure of cocaine in Gujarat. Cocaine prices range from Rs Four,000 to Rs 8,000 according to gram.

The NCB seized a complete of 657kg of all sorts of narcotics in the state between June 2017 and June 2018. The NCB had seized simplest 156.19kg of narcotics between June 2016 and June 2017.


These figures don't include the 1,500kg of heroin seized by the Coast Guard off the coast of Porbandar on July 29, 2017.


NCB zonal director, Hariom Gandhi, said: "We have organized school and college outreach programmes to curb the drug menace."


The risk does seem daunting. "If 835g of cocaine has been seized, then 8kg-10kg of cocaine must have entered the market," a drug dealer advised TOI.


Apart from the call for for heroin, charas and ganja, a spike in call for has been registered — particularly in Ahmedabad and Vadodara — for synthetic medication comparable to MDMA (three,Four-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), recognized by the road name ‘ecstasy’. Between June 2017 and March this 12 months, 1.5kg of MDMA pow powder MDMA and 65g of ecstasy pills have been seized by the NCB.
