More rains will take a toll on roads, says BBMP

The skies have opened up, but so have the roads. In Bengaluru, it’s the pothole season. After remaining yr’s mess, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is hoping to nip it within the bud this time before the rain units in, in all its glory. But given the wet circumstances, the civic agency believes roads could also be in a worse shape than remaining yr.

About 6,000 potholes have been recognized across the town – 1,200 of those are craters (> 1 sq.mt). The Palike has been given two Python (pothole-filling) machines and a sum general of 10 days to degree up the 1,200 giant ones.

The BBMP claims it has already filled about 400 of them whilst the remainder 800 will likely be completed before June 21. Most of the work is being performed at evening. But the heavy rains that town won in May, and the overcast days of June have come in the best way of fast work, it says.

An legit from the BBMP mentioned: “Although officials were deployed in quite a lot of zones across the town, work has now not been a hit as it has been raining on and off for the remaining two months. Because of this, roads are in a bad shape. The constant moisture could also be now not serving to.”

S Somashekhara, Chief Engineer, Major Roads, BBMP, mentioned: “Of the 1,200 potholes recognized on primary roads, we've got filled up about 400. I am positive that we will fill all of the potholes before the given cut-off date of 10 days. As it hasn’t rained within the remaining couple of days, we’ve been ready to perform a little extra work.
Even a mild drizzle compels us to stop the work. We wish to entire the project before it selections up again.”

“We have been coordinating with officials and they've been asked to send us GPS locations and pictures of potholes at the WhatsApp group created for this work,” he added.
