There's more to studying than just academics, which is precisely what over 100 upper primary scholars of Arivu Educational and Cultural Trust realised, once they were given the task of making a butterfly park. The scholars planted host and nectar plants, which will attract the winged guests, and the college hopes to throw open the park later this week.
Speaking to us, Dr Abhijith, the coordinator of nature resource-related actions for the trust, says, “We want to give sensible knowledge to college kids on butterfly breeding via setting up the park in 1,200 sq. toes area. They wish to know how to are living with nature without sticking only to academics. The scholars planted host plants to are living and nectar plants that function food for butterflies to finish their lifestyles cycle.”
Before embarking on the undertaking, the scholars were given theoretical knowledge about the job to hand. “The scholars have been guided via experts like Shivaprakash Adavanne and Sahana. Considering climate prerequisites, the park is conducive for the breeding of quite a lot of species of butterflies like not unusual mormon, blue mormon, not unusual rose, purple rose and pioneer butterfly. The park might be opened to the general public in a while,” adds Abhijith.
On Sunday evening, the butterfly park might be inaugurated via Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, followed via a different talk and slide display via Sahana M on Himalayan birds.
HOW TO CREATE A BUTTERFLY PARK
1. Find out the proper species of butterfly depending on climate prerequisites
2. Pick seeds from within sight nurseries and nurture it via pouring water steadily until it begins germinating. Ensure soil is correctly ready so that seeds get started germinating early.
3. Select right species of nectar and host plants as each play key roles in attracting butterflies.
