Naveen orders judicial probe into missing keys of Jagannath Temple's treasury

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday ordered judicial inquiry into cases resulting in mysterious disappearance of the keys of the Jagannath Temple's treasury. The building came a day after Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati demanded a thorough probe into the subject. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress too had slammed the state govt for its alleged negligence towards building of the temple.

Naveen said a retired judge of Orissa prime courtroom will behavior the probe and whole the investigation inside of 3 months. The temple’s treasury has two chambers—outer and inner. On April 5, Puri district collector Aravind Agarwal had made a startling revelation and said the district administration didn't have keys of the internal treasury of the shrine. His statement came a day after a 16-member team of professionals desisted from opening the shrine’s locked inner treasury, which was once final opened in 1985 to fetch ornaments for Lord Balabhadra. The professionals had carried out upkeep inspection of the internal chamber of the treasury through peeping thru a window of the outer chamber.

“I'm shocked that the keys of the internal treasury is lacking. How did it happen? A thorough probe is needed,” the Shankaracharya advised media individuals at Puri. As consistent with the written mins of a up to date meeting of the temple managing committee, Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb too expressed shock over the lacking keys.

Congress state president Niranjan Patnaik, who known as at the Puri Shankaracharya on Sunday, blamed the state govt for its alleged inefficiency in managing the shrine affairs. “Neither the temple administration nor the state govt is dedicated for the development of the temple. How may they be so irresponsible towards the temple and Ratna Bhandar,” asked Niaranjan.

The BJP too held a press conference here and sought a reply from chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the ‘lacking keys’ factor, involving Ratna Bhandar. Members of Jagannath Sena, a socio-cultural organisation, staged demonstration outdoor Jagannath temple on Sunday, tough motion in opposition to the ones, whose negligence led to the lacking of the internal Ratna Bhandra’s keys.

As consistent with Jagannath temple act 1960, the keys of the internal treasury must all the time stay in the district treasury. The inner treasury homes bulk of ornaments of the deities. “We searched the district treasury, but didn't find the internal Ratna Bhandar’s keys. The temple administration didn't deposit the keys in district treasury,” Agarwal was once quoted as announcing in media on April 5.

Sources said the door of the internal treasury has 3 locks. During Ratna Bhandar inspection on April four, talks had been doing the rounds that the members of the inspection team did not open the internal treasury owing to absence of keys. The professionals then defined that they didn't unencumber the room as they might clearly behavior a visual inspection of the internal treasury through standing in the outer treasury thru a grille.

Sources said the temple administration is likely to transfer the state govt, in search of permission to wreck the locks of the internal Ratna Bhandar. “We already raised the problem in managing committee meeting final month. Members agreed to apprise the government to wreck the locks,” a temple legitimate said.
