Passengers jump out of driverless bus, run over

HOWRAH: A tender IT skilled was once beaten to death and an MSc scholar severely injured when the bus they have been travelling in ran over them. The two jumped off the bus — that was once rolling down a bridge — in panic after they saw the driving force doing the similar as he lost keep watch over of the automobile. The accident happened on Friday round 10.30am.

A West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) bus was once going up Howrah’s Bankim Setu when it all of sudden stopped and began rolling back. The driving force, unable to keep watch over the bus as both the brake and take hold of had failed, jumped out along with the conductor. With the driverless bus rolling down the bridge’s slope, two ladies passengers — fearing it might meet with an accident — jumped off it.




Once they jumped out, they began running down the slope. But the bus, rolling at an everbrisker pace because it received momentum, mowed one down and ran over the other’s leg. The bus then rammed right into a Salt Lakebound private bus that was once travelling up the bridge and got here to a halt.

Narrating the accident after going through CCTV camera footage, Howrah OC Mani Shankar Sengupta mentioned, “The bus was once going up the bridge at a velocity of 20km when an obvious mechanical fault brought about it to jerk and roll back.” A passenger of the bus, Pradip Das (59), mentioned, “I've been travelling to paintings in this course for 26 years. The bus all of sudden jerked, stopped for three seconds and began rolling down. The driving force and conductor jumped off, adding to the panic.”


Howrah City Police ACP (south) Gulam Sarwar mentioned, “We have seized the bus and will send it for forensic examination. The bus seems to be in a bad state. It should now not have been plying on the street.”


Shattered, Upama’s father — Monojit — mentioned he will write to the CM interesting that every one government buses be correctly tested to keep away from accidents like the one that killed his daughter. “No one should have to pay along with his or her life whilst availing carrier from a government organisation,” mentioned the retired United Bank of India worker.
