Puri collector in soup after discovery of 'duplicate' keys of Jagannath Temple's treasury

BHUBANESWAR: Puri district collector Aravind Agarwal has discovered himself on a sticky wicket for allegedly having acted in haste in April and concluding that the keys of Jagannath temple’s inner Ratna Bhandar were untraceable. Agarwal, who had on April 5 published that the keys went missing from district treasury, on Wednesday disclosed that a sealed envelope, containing duplicate keys of inner Ratna Bhandar, used to be discovered in his office record room.

BJP hounded Agarwal and mentioned his hasty announcement about the missing keys in April sparked massive public outcry around the nation and resulted in the surprising removal of Jagannath temple’s chief administrator Pradeep Jena, a senior IAS officer, within the controversy. “I think Agarwal has an unsound thoughts. He will have to have performed a thorough seek of his treasury and office record room prior to hurriedly disclosing in April that the keys were missing. His irresponsible and callous attitude hurt sentiments of folks and created furore. Strict motion will have to be taken against him,” senior BJP chief Bijoy Mohapatra mentioned.

BJP spokesperson Pitambar Acharya mentioned the collector has hatched a conspiracy to confuse the people and his role is highly suspicious in all of the sequence of occasions since the subject of disappearance of the keys used to be disclosed through him in April. Senior BJP chief and former law minister Biswabhusan Harichandan mentioned the Ratna Bhandar keys should have been saved within the district treasury. “I'm shocked how did the keys (duplicate as claimed through the collector) succeed in within the collector’s office record room. He may have cooked up a false tale,” Harichandan mentioned.

Former BJD chief Baijayant Panda too reacted and tweeted: “If it used to be supposed to reassure the people that every one is easily, it has had the exact opposite effect. It has given upward thrust to suspicion that the keys were never lost within the first place and were put back in place when things were given too hot to take care of.”

Binayak Dasmohapatra, a senior servitor of Jagannath temple, mentioned the government has been showing leniency to Agarwal as he's an IAS officer. “Had any servitor committed the same mistake, the government would have taken stringent motion through now. The government will have to instantly verify authenticity of the traced keys and to find out whether embellishes of the deities are intact,” Dasmohapatra mentioned.

Collector Agarwal defended himself and denied all fees. “I have now not committed anything unsuitable, nor misled any person. I'm ready to stand any type of inquiry, if ordered against me,” Agarwal told media individuals. Agarwal mentioned he has now not but opened the sealed envelope, containing the duplicate keys. The collector mentioned the envelope will be handed over Raghubir Das judicial commission, set up through the state government to probe the cases resulting in lack of the interior Ratna Bhandar’s keys.
