Rain havoc: Minister directs DCs not to sanction leave for govt staff without valid reasons

MANGALURU: Revenue minister R V Deshpande has directed officials to be more accountable during wet season and asked deputy commissioners to sanction depart for team of workers simplest in case of emergency.
After visiting rain affected spaces in Mangaluru town and Ullal on Thursday, Deshpande directed that each one district administrations within the state must cling weekly evaluation meetings to evaluate rain damages. The minister chaired evaluation assembly involving other people’s representatives and officials at the deputy commissioner’s place of business right here.


"I have directed deputy commissioners of all districts to hold review meetings to assess rain damages and to take up relief measures. District level officials should hold video conference with taluk level officials. Officials should sanction leave to subordinates only if the reason is of emergency nature. In addition, officials at the district and taluk levels should visit places that are affected by rains and listen to the grievances of people. This exercise will reduce the complaints," Deshpande mentioned.


Almost all of the 30 districts within the state had been witnessing heavy rain. Instances of lack of existence, property and cattle are being reported from all portions of the state. Relief measures are being taken up based on the ideas of National Calamity Relief Fund (NCCF). The state govt has launched Rs 22 crore for calamity relief within the wake of heavy rains within the state. Deputy commissioners had been asked to order at least Rs 5 crore for the calamity relief works. Officials must respond to grievances related to rain damages and soak up relief measures on a struggle footing, he mentioned.


The govt has determined to sanction further Rs 1 lakh to the family of the ones died in natural calamities. While Rs four lakh shall be sanctioned to the family of diseased from the NCRF, the state govt has determined to sanction further Rs one lakh from the chief minister’s relief fund, he added.


Directions had been given to agriculture and animal husbandry departments to publish experiences related to crop loss and dying of cattle, the minister mentioned.
