Raped Japanese tourist feared Nirbhaya-like fate

MANALI: The Japanese tourist who was allegedly raped via a taxi motive force in Kullu on May 30 feared she can be brutalised like Nirbhaya. While identifying the accused in an id parade on Saturday, the 30-year-old girl instructed police that she stopped resisting him after he threatened to “name 5 - 6 men and have her gang raped”.

Deepak (37), who introduced to take her from Manali to Kullu so that she could take a night bus to Dharamshala, drove her instead to a secluded position in Kullu and attempted to force himself on her within the cab. She instructed law enforcement officials that she gave in after his chilling risk as she did not wish to suffer the destiny of Nirbhaya, the 23-year-old girl who died 12 days after being gang-raped via six men inside of a bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012.

Deepak was arrested on Friday. Kullu superintendent of police Shalini Agnihotri said the survivor knew nothing concerning the accused, the taxi model or its registration number. She could no longer even establish where the place she was raped.

“After repeated inquiries, we were given just one clue from girl — the make of the tune device within the car,” Agnihotri said. “A restaurant was also identified at the Manali-Kullu bypass street the place they had stopped. We worked on those two leads and our groups began connecting the dots.”
