Residents flay opening of new liquor outlets

Tirupur: Several residents, who attended the criticism day meet at the collectorate here on Monday, submitted petitions against opening of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor outlets in resiential in addition to industrial areas.

Tasmac authorities have been taking steps to open new liquor shops in more than a few puts, especially after the Supreme Court comfy restrictions on setting up the shops. In many puts, local residents showed their opposition as they feel that it's going to have an effect on normalcy in such areas.


Residents from Lakshmi Theatre of Samundipuram, Uthukuli Road of Tirupur company, Karanampettai in Kodangipalayam panchayat, and Palladam petitioned the district management to forestall the inauguration of Tasmac shops in their areas. “The authorities closed a Tasmac store on Uthukuli Road and shifted one of the vital shops with reference to Mannarai graveyard. But now, two new Tasmac shops and a recreation membership have opened on Uthukuli Road. Since many colleges and knitwear firms are positioned on the road , the presence of the liquor shops will have an effect on kids in addition to commuters. So, opposition parties have passed a common solution to close the ones shops,” a CPM functionary mentioned.
