KOLKATA: The contemporary downpour has laid naked the situation of town roads. Craters have surfaced on arterial roads making it an uphill task for the motorists to barter these roads.
Though craters are present in major thoroughfares around the town, situation of Diamond Harbour Road and Eastern Metropolitan Bypass has been the worst. A survey of those two arterial roads via TOI published that situation of the stretch between Kidderpore and Chowrasta is the worst so far as DH Road is anxious. Motorists or bikers need to dodge at least 50 craters on this stretch to achieve their destinations. This may be resulting in accidents at night, stated a visitors constable on duty near Behala Chowrasta. "Motorists can exercise caution during the day but at night it's extremely difficult for the bikers to locate the craters from a distance in absence of streetlights," a visitors constable stated.

Similarly, stretches on EM Bypass have transform nightmare for motorists after large number of craters have surfaced between VIP Bazar intersection and Ajaynagar crossing. A survey via the KMC roads department has discovered the Ruby Connector essentially the most unhealthy stretch after the new showers. "The need of the hour is immediate repair of the craters," stated a KMC roads department reliable. Milan Chatterjee, a legal professional and a resident of a housing complex near Anwar Shah connector, stated: "Besides, there are several hospitals located along the stretches which have been battered due to rains. If immediate action is not taken, patients and their relatives will also suffer a lot."


Ratan De, MMiC (roads), then again pointed out that each the DH Road and EM Bypass fall underneath the jurisdiction of public works department and Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. "We will take up the matter with these agencies requesting them to initiate a repair process at the earliest."
