Southwest monsoon sets in Karnataka

BENGALURU: The much-awaited southwest monsoon has in the end set in Karnataka, with common rains within the state's coastal area and southern space, said a Met authentic on Monday.

"The southwest monsoon has set in the state on Monday with rains in the coastal and southern interior regions," India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Director-incharge C.S. Patil informed IANS right here.

Though the monsoon hit neighbouring Kerala on May 29 and used to be to go into Karnataka on June 1, it got delayed via three days because of other climatic prerequisites and changing climate patterns.

The Met Office has issued heavy rainfall indicators in coastal and southern inside areas.


Moderate to heavy pre-monsoon rainfall used to be received across the state's 30 districts over the past week.


The pre-monsoon rains, accompanied via thunderstorms and gusty winds, wreaked havoc within the state inundating low-lying areas, uprooting bushes and snapping power traces and damaging roads in coastal, central and south inside districts over the weekend.


According to IMD data, pre-monsoon rains have been in far more than about 40 in line with cent within the state, bringing cheers to farmers as early rains will keep the soil fertile for sowing operations and fodder for cattle.


Bengaluru is more likely to witness low to moderate rainfall over the following two days.
