Teen overcomes clubfoot to realise racing dream

HYDERABAD: There were many instances of sportspersons overcoming odds to be triumphant. Many have braved difficult situations too, to reach one thing they set their heart on.
Young Tijil Rao’s tale is one thing similar. The 14-year-old overcame an extraordinary handicap that made the easy act of strolling extraordinarily painful. Rao is set to make his debut in the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship 2018 in Coimbatore from June 22 to 24.

Born with clubfoot, a situation wherein one’s ft turn inwards, Tijil needed to undergo two surgical procedures in each of his legs. He underwent his first surgery when just three-months-old and again when he used to be four-years-old to lead a typical life.

That, on the other hand, didn’t stop him from pursuing his passion for racing. When Tijil makes his debut, he's going to have the glory of becoming probably the most youngest racers at the Formula LGB 1300 Grid, which is a part of the MRF Indian National Racing Championship 2018.


The 14-year-old from Bangalore, a Std. X scholar might be racing for Momentum Motorsports.


“We are extremely joyful to have Tijil Rao in our Formula LGB 1300 motive force line-up,” Rasheed Khan, Momentum Motorsport’s crew foremost, mentioned. “He has proven promising velocity in his pre-season testing with us, and we imagine that he can constantly rating issues through the season,” he added.


In 2017, Tijil competed in the National Rotax Karting Championship and honed his ability. He underwent pre-season testing with Momentum School of Advance Racing in April and May and bagged a seat.


“I’m happy to be a part of the championship winning Momentum Motorsport crew. They managed to get the best out of me throughout testing and I am now assured of showing my skills,” Tijil mentioned.
