TRICHY: Police and meals protection division officers seized banned tobacco merchandise value Rs 15 lakh from a non-public godown in Viswas Nagar space here on Sunday.
Food protection division officers amassed samples from the seized tobacco merchandise and sent them for check.
Police said a truck coming to Trichy from Bengaluru was once allegedly stolen on May 27, after a gang of 8 males intercepted it and assaulted the truck motive force near Manamedu.
Truck motive force V Kumar lodged a criticism with the Thottiyam police. During inquiry, the police discovered the automobile abandoned near Jeeyapuram.
Though the complainant claimed that the truck have been wearing well being beverages, police suspected that it have been used to transport several banned tobacco merchandise. The inquiry led the police to a non-public godown.
While inspecting the godown, the police recovered 22 bundles of banned tobacco merchandise.
“Chewable tobacco, pan masala and two other varieties of tobacco banned as according to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 have been recovered from the godown. Samples were amassed for check.
