Tribals declare 'self-governance' on T'gana day

HYDERABAD: Telangana Formation Day was marred by protests by Adivasis, who hoisted black flags, at many villages in Agency areas on Saturday difficult that Lambada community be deleted from the record of Scheduled Castes (SCs). Tension mounted up in areas falling below undivided Adilabad district as Adivasis declared `self-governance’ and staged protest in enhance in their demand. The police beefed up safety within the Agency fearing clashes between two tribal groups – Adivasis and Lambadas.

The police thwarted an try to hoist a black flag atop the district collectorate in Adilabad. The two Adivasis, who made the vain bid, have been taken into custody. The Adivasis had been difficult that Lambada lecturers and officers leave the Adivasi villages. The two groups had been at loggerheads for the remaining one year, frequently resulting in violent clashes.


On Saturday whilst government officers and politicians hoisted the national flag to mark the state formation day, Adivasis sported black ribbons and hoisted black flags.


The Adivasis had been on an agitation for the remaining 3 days with the slogan, “Our village our rule, our village self-governance”. They have also set up sign boards declaring self-governance. The agitation is being spearheaded by Tudum Debba, an organisation dedicated to the security of the rights of Adivasis.


Tribals took to streets of their conventional attire and beating drums to announce “self-governance” of their villages. Meanwhile, tension built up at Sirikonda mandal of Asifabad district after a 48-year-old Adivasi was stoned to loss of life by unidentified individuals. The police bolstered safety within the mandal after the incident.
