PATIALA: At the time when the town residents are challenging canal water to struggle water crisis in the town, Patiala mayor Sanjeev Sharma alias Bittu was conveniently noticed leveraging a minor water body that will get its supply from canal to water the garden at his residence.
For this, an underground pipeline was laid from the water source (Baradari minor) to his residence. Apparently, the people aware of the subject mentioned that the mayor did not even care to take permissions from any division concerned to install the pipeline. The distance between Baradari minor and the mayor's authentic residence is somewhere round 150 toes.
The officers of irrigation division mentioned that a proposal was despatched through the mayor but the permission for the same was but to be given.
What is extra attention-grabbing is the truth that the irrigation officers mentioned that they have been blind to the pipeline work.
"I don't know about any water outlet being installed at the mayor's residence. I am also unaware of any official residence that are being provided water directly from minors through outlets," mentioned government engineer, irrigation division, Rakesh Sharma.
"We are supposed to provide canal water if any official demands an outlet. We had received a proposal in this regard and the process to grant the same was underway," he added.
"Until a permission is granted, no one can construct an outlet. It will be declared as illegal and amounts to water outlet tampering," mentioned sub-divisional officer Harshpreet Singh.
"The road to mayor's residence falls under my authority and I am unaware of any such development. No permission to damage the road and lay any pipeline has been granted. We will take action against the defaulters by imposing a fine and filing a case," mentioned government engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) Naveen Mittal.
Patiala municipal company commissioner G S Khaira, mentioned, "We had not sent any proposal to construct an outlet near the mayor's residence."
Meanwhile, Patiala mayor Sanjeev Sharma was unavailable for feedback.
