Industries minister M C Sampath mentioned the state government would speed up land acquisition for Coimbatore airport expansion when DMK MLA Karthik raised the issue within the assembly on Thursday.
“In 2010, when M Karunanidhi was once the executive minister, an order was once handed for the airport expansion. There are many corporations in Coimbatore and almost all their house owners want a bigger airport within the town,” the DMK MLA mentioned and accused the AIADMK government of turning a blind eye to the undertaking.
“Even although a central authority order was once handed in 2010, the undertaking is yet to peer the sunshine. People now say that the brand new airport is just mirage,” Karthik mentioned.
While the industries minister hinted that the expansion work would start on the earliest, minister S P Velumani, a local of the district, remained silent at the issue.

The AAI plans to make bigger the runway from nine,500toes to 12,500toes. It had demanded the state government to procure no less than 1,000 acres of land. However, residents of Chinniyampalayam and Irugur panchayats were up in fingers when the expansion plan was once announced a decade ago.
