68 officers pass out from INS Shivaji on completion of marine engg course

PUNE: A complete of 52 officials, together with 3 from the Indian Coast Guards, and 16 from pleasant foreign navies handed out from the INS Shivaji at Lonavla on Saturday on a success final touch of 79 weeks of Marine Engineering Specialisation Course (MESC).

The passing out parade used to be reviewed through Rear Admiral Kalidoss Srinivas, Project Director, Ship Building Centre, Visakhapatnam.

INS Shivaji is a premier technical training establishment and is the alma mater of marine engineer officials of the Indian Navy. The establishment imparts specialized training to officials and sailors of the engineering branch.


The first batch of the MESC commenced training at INS Shivaji on Janaury 2, 1961 and since then, 84 batches have handed out from this establishment.


The parade of the 85th batch of MESC marked the culmination of 79 weeks of rigorous training in which academic curriculum ran simultaneously with a challenging afloat and outside regimen which ensured all round grooming of the officials. These officials are actually poised to take on the demanding situations of their first appointment onboard frontline warships.


Admiral Srinivas recommended the officials to proceed their learning and regularly adapt to technological advancements to be thorough professionals. He exhorted the young engineer officials to steer through example and pursue excellence in each endeavour while keeping up the best requirements of high quality of their spheres of labor.


He awarded trophies to officials for excelling in particular fields. The 'Hammer' for the most productive all round officer used to be awarded to Second Lieutenant Gokul Ganesh Mathan. Second Lieutenant Aakash Pandey and Second Lieutenant Ankit Ojha stood first and second respectively within the general order of academic benefit.
