CHENNAI: Thanks to Aadhaar, the demographic and biometric authentication procedure has helped remove the names of one.4 crore other folks from the public distribution machine database in the state as they appeared on multiple ration card. The duplications were rectified after seeding of Aadhaar numbers in the executive database for common PDS.
About 10 lakh replica PDS cards were also eliminated during the exercise, said a coverage word tabled by way of R Kamaraj, food and shopper protection minister, in the state assembly. “Names of these other folks appeared in one or more cards and so they were taking part in subsidized commodities. After seeding of distinctive numbers to the database for the distribution of smart cards, the collection of other folks got here down from eight crore to 6.6 crore in our database,” said a senior executive reliable.
