B'luru: Gold of Rs 87L found in airport toilet

BENGALURU: Crude gold value over Rs 87 lakh was once found inside of a polythene packet in a trash can of a bathroom at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday.

Customs officers suspect the gold weighing 2.8kg was once smuggled into Bengaluru and in all probability supposed to be picked up via different smuggling ring individuals from the airport.

According to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Bengaluru Customs, their crew combed KIA premises following data that a large quantity of gold has been smuggled from the Gulf. An inspection of a washroom in the international departure dangle area on Tuesday revealed a suspicious black packet in a trash can.

Sleuths opened the packet to find four crude gold chains and one bangle (kada) weighing 2800gm covered in insulation tape to steer clear of detection below scanners.

Customs officers believe the packet was once intentionally placed in the bin for an aide to pick out up and shipping to some other location in the country via air and quit to the racketeers. Customs officers have stepped up vigil on the departure dangle area, assets added.
