CU Syndicate members submit complaint against VC to Guv

KOZHIKODE: The syndicate contributors of the Calicut University have complained to Governor P Sathasivam towards vice chancellor Okay Mohammed Basheer for alleged unilateral adjournment of Monday's syndicate assembly ahead of it will believe a syndicate inquiry file towards the director of varsity physical schooling division in connection with lapses in dealing with a ragging complaint.

The syndicate assembly which started in the morning thought to be different agenda items and used to be to believe the inquiry file at the ragging complaint in the afternoon.

But activists of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and Youth League gheraoed the vice chancellor in his chamber when the assembly broke for lunch. The activists said that the syndicate motion towards director of physical schooling division V P Sakeer Hussain used to be politically motivated.

The vice chancellor informed the 13 Left- aligned contributors of the syndicate who had been ready at the assembly corridor at five pm through the professional vice chancellor that the assembly has been adjourned. Though the syndicate contributors insisted that the assembly will have to be persisted and that pro- vice chancellor will have to be allowed to chair the assembly it used to be turned down. The syndicate contributors remained in the assembly corridor till 6.30 pm following which they sent a complaint to the governor who is also the chancellor of the college

Syndicate member Prof. R Bindu said that the gherao of the VC by MSF activists used to be a stage managed display and used to be a planned ploy to prevent the discussion of the inquiry file at the charges towards Sakeer Hussain. She said that the unilateral adjournment of the assembly by the VC used to be towards all democratic norms.

Meanwhile vice chancellor Mohammed Basheer said that he had asked the syndicate inquiry committee to post their inquiry report back to him ahead of the commencement of the syndicate assembly which used to be now not complied with.

"Before a report is to be tabled in the syndicate meeting, it has to be submitted to the vice chancellor. I asked the members to submit the report during the meeting but it was not handed over till the meeting broke for lunch," he added.


The Calicut University syndicate has on June 20 sent the director of the college physical schooling division V P Sakeer Husssain on obligatory go away for failing to enforce the selections of the college anti- ragging committee which inquired into ragging complaint submitted by first 12 months MPEd scholars and following charges that he had allegedly submitted a fake report back to the UGC at the issue.


Three first 12 months MPEd (Master of Physical Education) scholars of the campus had been allegedly subjected to ragging in June, 2017 by senior scholars of the department at the varsity hostel. The anti- ragging committee which regarded into the petition by the students had recommended motion towards the accused scholars including withholding of their examination effects.


Students alleged that the file of the anti- ragging committee used to be now not applied by the director. UGC had sought rationalization from the college at the complaint by the students.


Meanwhile Sakeer Hussain had maintained that motion towards him used to be politically motivated and that he had constituted a division stage inquiry committee on June 19, 2017 itelf and had submitted a report back to the college dean of student welfare. He had additionally refuted charges that he had sent a fake report back to the UGC concerning the raging incident.
