Dam water released, Hampi monuments submerged

BALLARI: Due to the increase in outflow from Tungabhadra reservoir on Thursday evening, a number of monuments at Hampi and adjacent to Tungabhadra River have been submerged. Police and earnings officials sounded an alert and Home Guards and police staff have been deputed at many places in the heritage web page.

Tungabhadra Board officials opened 22 of 33 crest gates and launched 63,000 cusecs of water. Water reached the Purandara Temple tower (gopura), Rama-Lakshmana Temple, Snana Ghat and many small monuments have been submerged.

KP Ravikumar, CPI, Hampi police station, mentioned: “We have alerted citizens of villages alongside the river and warned them no longer to enter the water. We have informed ferry and boat operators and fishermen to be careful.” A earnings officer mentioned: “The outflow is 6sz3,000 cusecs of water and inflow 59,000 cusecs. As of 7pm, there is no likelihood of a upward push in the inflow. We are able to assist villagers if anything else happens. We hope the inflow reduces, and there is no downside.
