RAJKOT: Normal existence used to be paralysed in parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat regions as heavy rains persisted to lash for the 3rd consecutive day on Wednesday, which led to primary water-logging and broken rail tracks at a few points that ended in cancellation of several trains, officers stated.
In Saurashtra, districts like Devbhumi Dwarka, Junagadh, Porbandar and Gir Somnath witnessed heavy rainfall, while Navsari and Dang districts in south Gujarat received considerable downpour within the final 24 hours till 7 am.
As in keeping with the information launched by way of the Gujarat executive, Khambhalia taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka received up to 412 mm rainfall within the final 24 hours.
Khambhalia used to be followed by way of Manavadar taluka in Junagadh (283 mm), Vansda in Navsari (245 mm), Waghai in Dang (214 mm), Mangrol in Junagadh (210 mm), Porbandar taluka in Porbandar (197 mm), Ranavav in Porbandar (194 mm) and Maliya taluka in Junagadh district (191 mm).
Around 15 villages across the affected regions have been marooned on account of the incessant downpour. Educational establishments in these regions remained closed.
In order to permit the elected representatives and ministers to oversee the rescue and relief paintings in their respective regions, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani cancelled the weekly Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
Rupani had on Tuesday visited Gir Somnath district, which is among the worst affected districts in Saurashtra area.
Ministers Kunvarji Bavaliya and Jayesh Radadiya have been tenting in Gir Somnath and Junagadh districts respectively to take inventory of the location and supervise the rescue paintings.
Radadiya held a gathering with the district officers in Junagadh.
Talking to newshounds, he stated around 200 stranded people have been shifted to safer places.
Bavaliya visited the regulate room in Gir Somnath district to take inventory of the location. He is scheduled to talk over with some affected villages within the district later within the day.
The movement of trains used to be affected due to heavy rains and next breaches in rail tracks at Kanasur village in Rajkot department.
"Movement of over half a dozen trains has been affected due to heavy rains and subsequent breaches in rail tracks," a senior reliable of Rajkot department stated, including that the Western Railway needed to deploy buses to ferry the passengers of those trains that have been short-terminated.
"Okha-Rameshwaram Express train had to be short-terminated at Modpur and its further journey stands cancelled," the reliable stated in a observation.
Similarly, Saurashtra Mail, which runs between Okha and Mumbai, used to be short-terminated at Khambhaliya. Okha-Puri educate used to be also cancelled lately, the observation added.
Divisional Railway Manager P B Ninawe rushed to Kanasur, where flood waters washed away the soil under the tracks.
