Jawan falls prey to ATM card cloning, Rs 2 lakh withdrawn from account

GURUGRAM: When Mahipal Singh, a sepoy with the Indian Army, went to withdraw cash from the SBI’s Bhiwani branch in April, he had no wisdom that he was once a sufferer of ATM card cloning. He wanted to withdraw cash and lend it to his pal. But, the financial institution declined his cheque claiming inadequate stability.
Shocked, Singh asked the financial institution legit for an elaborate reason for refusing to encash his cheque. He was once informed that Rs 2 lakh was once withdrawn from his account in January. He right away lodged a criticism with the financial institution giving proof that as he was once posted in Lucknow in January, he had no longer carry out the transaction.

It took him months to get the transaction main points from the financial institution. The commentary confirmed that the withdrawal of Rs 2 lakh had taken place between January 11 and 12 through 8 transactions. “I got here to know concerning the withdrawal months later. I had lost my cell phone in January and due to this fact gained no notification at the transactions,” stated Singh.


As per the criticism filed at the Bajghera police station, Rs 20,000 was once withdrawn in the intervening night time of January and 11 and 12. It was once followed by 4 money withdrawal of Rs 60,000 (overall) from an ATM in Bajghera, Gurugram. Rs 80,000 was once transferred to an account in Rajasthan, and transaction value Rs 40,000 was once also completed the usage of the ATM.


While submitting his criticism on Thursday, Singh stated that the ATM card was once in his possession. An FIR was once registered beneath sections 420 (cheating) and 379 (theft) of the IPC.


“Prima facie it looks like a case of card cloning. We have started our investigation,” stated a police officer.
