CHENNAI/SALEM: The I-T searches on TN civil supplies company contractor T S Kumaraswamy's companies took a new turn on Friday as one of his staff jumped from the first ground of a building at Andipalayam close to Tiruchengode where he was once being wondered by way of I-T officers.
When P Karthikeyan, 32, was once being wondered at a house in SKP Nagar, he complained of nausea and sought permission to go to the balcony. Taking the officers by way of surprise, he jumped from the balcony. I-T officers alerted police, who rushed him to a personal sanatorium at Tiruchengode for first-aid. He was once later shifted to Salem super speciality sanatorium as he had suffered fracture in the spine. His situation is stable, said sanatorium resources. Police have registered a case.
I-T officers had been wondering all the staff at Kumaraswamy's companies since Thursday morning. The officers also checked the financial institution accounts of the employees.
They have seized some cash and documents on the subject of Kumaraswamy's investments in India and abroad. I-T officers refused to offer details of seizure on file. A senior official said documents associated with operation of shell companies have been also seized from Kumaraswamy's premises. Searches continued in 50 puts on Friday. I-T officers grilled both Kumaraswamy and TN civil supplies company MD Sudha Devi.
"Some of the investments he made in his personal capacity and in the names of various companies were not declared in the tax returns he filed in the past," said a senior I-T investigation official who is a part of the investigation.
The searches are more likely to proceed on Saturday. "We are yet to open some of the lockers on his premises. Only after checking all that can we take stock of the total seizures," said the official. From Sudha Devi's administrative center and residence, I-T officers seized documents relating to acquire of dhal from Kumaraswamy's companies for supplying throughout the public distribution system. The department may be looking at the involvement of a couple of different officers in the civil supplies company in favouring Kumaraswamy's companies in award of tenders. Meanwhile, searches are going on at Agni workforce of companies based in Erode.
