HYDERABAD: Every Hyderabadi had a sentimental attachment with the Mississippi aircraft hangar that when housed the city’s central bus station (CBS). But, for octogenarian B Sesha Raj, who witnessed its set up at Gowliguda in overdue 1940s, the hangar was once greater than a sentiment. It was once Hyderabad’s business, automotive and cultural heritage par excellence.

Sesha Raj, knowledgeable in device design, had served as an engineer in Nizam’s Road Transport (NRT) division of Nizam’s State Railway, the predecessor of APSRTC and TSRTC. The sudden collapse of the hangar made Raj nostalgic and he remembered how the pre-fabricated construction mendacity idle at Begumpet airport was once installed at a bus depot, which was once later turned into a bus station serving 1000's of passengers on a daily basis.


“The 3 hangars were imported in 1934, two years after the first fleet of NRT was once offered. The buses were parked outside Kacheguda railway station earlier than the Mississippi hangar was once installed at Gowliguda. Aviation pioneer PM Reddy, who was once heading Deccan Airways, had given the hangers to NRT as gratis. They were installed in 1946,” Raj advised TOI.


The Mississippi hangar may have fallen victim to legitimate forget, but its memories would stay, Raj stated, urging government to give protection to the Hamilton hangars at Ranigunj.
