PM Modi ‘tears’ into opposition on farmer issues

MIRZAPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused Opposition events of shedding “crocodile tears” for farmers while doing not anything for them when in power and losing public money by stalling tasks.

After inaugurating Bansagar Dam Major Canal, 40 years after its basis was once laid, at Chandaipur in Mirzapur in East UP, Modi said: “Those (opposition events) having learnt shedding crocodile tears for farmers should tell why their governments on the Centre and state turned a blind eye to mega irrigation tasks like Bansagar Dam Major Canal and issue of mountaineering MSP for vegetation stalled for decades.”

“By stalling Bansagar project, they not handiest disadvantaged farmers of the advantages of this canal but also brought about a huge loss of public money. It began with the cheap of Rs 300 crore in 1978. But the lengthen has escalated value to Rs 3500 crore,” he said.

Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Modi said: “After the basis of this project was once laid by the then PM Morarji Desai in 1978, his (Rahul) birthday celebration was once in power for two decades. SP and BSP shaped governments, but none showed decision to complete this mega project.”

“It isn't Bansagar on my own. Such ‘atke, latke and bhatke’ (stuck up and derailed) tasks can be discovered in several states. The Opposition by no means had any worry. When you gave us an opportunity in 2014, my executive began looking for such stalled, derailed and forgotten tasks. After BJP came to power in UP in 2017, works on Bansagar were restarted and finished in report time of 15 months.”
