TMC ropes in ragpickers to segregate waste

THANE: In a move that can supply higher livelihood to the ragpickers right here as well as assist in making good use of recyclable materials, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) plans to rope in ragpickers for amassing and segregating recyclable materials from the garbage generated within the slum space of town.

Right now garbage is accrued most commonly from residential buildings as well as housing societies. Most of the slum dwellers are throwing waste in within reach nullah or open area.

TMC legitimate said that they had been planning to rope in non-governmental organizations to identify ragpickers within the town. The project will price roughly Rs four crore.

TMC has decided on 127 slum wallet from Vartak Nagar, Wagle estate, Lokmanya-Sawarkar Nagar, Uthalsar, Naupada, Kalwa, Mumbra, Majiwada, Manpada and Kopri municiple wards. One NGO can observe for 5 slum wallet.


One worker shall be deputed to collect waste from 300 slum houses. Uploading of photos of garbage accrued from these slums on TMC App is necessary. For effective implementation of this scheme, TMC could also be planning to construct one App connected to GPS.


Every worker will obtain this App. Then she or he will upload the picture of home from where he has accrued the garbage, on a daily basis.
