Tourist spots in Nilgiris to get facilities to promote eco-tourism

Udhagamandalam: Tourists who talk over with Doddabetta Peak within the Nilgiris will soon in finding new facilities like bogs, resting seats and barricades.
These facilities are going to be built to uplift infrastructure of tourist spots in eight ranges of the Nilgiris wooded area division to advertise eco-tourism. The spots come with Doddabetta Peak, Lamb’s Rock, Kodanadu View Point, Dolphin’s Nose and Needle Rock.

The building activities apply the merger of the 2 wooded area divisions (north and south) of the Nilgiris, now known as the Nilgiri wooded area division.


“Out of the 14 ranges, eight ranges are engaged in eco-tourism for the benefit of local citizens particularly tribal communities,” mentioned Sumesh Soman, district wooded area officer, Nilgiris division. “Infrastructure of the tourist spots situated inside wooded area spaces are advanced. At puts like Lamb’s Rock, Dolphin’s Nose and Doddabetta, old barricades were found broken. These barricades are at fringe of view issues that lead to deep valleys,” Soman informed TOI. Renovation paintings has began already at Doddabetta Peak.


Before merger, 3 ranges — Sigur, Singara and Thengumarahada — were introduced beneath Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR). By inclusion of the 3 ranges, the realm of MTR within the Nilgiris has gone as much as 367.59sqkm.


Out of 2,549sqkm land within the district, 1,853sqkm comprises of wooded area duvet which is 72% of general area.
