Two medical store owners among seven held in drug death case

LUDHIANA: Six days after a 29-year-old farmer died due to alleged drug overdose in Swadi Kalan village of Sidhwan Bet, police has arrested seven persons, together with two clinical retailer owners, in reference to the case. They had been all booked for culpable murder and likewise beneath the NDPS Act.

Those arrested had been known as Gurpreet Singh, Pushpinder Singh, Gurjit Singh, Baljeet Singh, and Jaspreet Singh (all of Swadi Kalan), Harpreet Singh of Malik village, and Malkeet Singh of Bhondri village.


On the night time of 29 June, Kuljit Singh (29), a farmer from Swadi Kalan of Sidhwan Bet, had died due to alleged drug overdose. Kuljit’s circle of relatives had discovered his frame close to a motor in his fields, and recovered a capped syringe among other articles from close to his frame. Ludhiana (Rural) police mentioned Gurpreet, Pushpinder, and Harpreet Singh had been arrested in the case from more than a few places on Tuesday. Cops mentioned the other accused in the case had been arrested by police from more than a few places on Thursday, and can be produced in a neighborhood court for buying their police remand on Friday. They added that AAP leader and Dakha MLA HS Phoolka had taken up the problem of Kuljit’s demise due to alleged drug overdose with STF leader Harpreet Singh Sidhu, who cracked whip on Ludhiana (Rural) police to arrest the accused without delay.


Senior police officers mentioned with the arrest of clinical shop owners, the role of approved drug dealers too had come beneath shut scrutiny, and law enforcement officials — in coordination with the well being department and other govt businesses — have started scrutinizing their role. There could also be extra swoopdowns in the coming days, they mentioned.
