UP panel sends notice to AMU on quota issue

AGRA: The Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission on Wednesday issued a realize to Aligarh Muslim University for “violating constitutional provisions” via not extending reservation to SC and ST aspirants in admissions and appointments.

The transfer comes a day after the National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairperson Ramshankar Katheria requested the university to clarify its stand on reservations or possibility losing central investment.

The chairman of UP SC/ ST Commission Brijlal informed TOI that realize has been issued to the AMU registrar and he has been requested to respond via August 8. He mentioned if AMU does not answer within the stipulated time, the commission will factor summons to them.

In its six-page realize, the commission expressed its displeasure over the University’s stand of not offering benefits of reservation to SC/ST students. The commission has requested why SC/ST communities have not been given benefits of reservation and beneath what circumstances this has been executed.
