Mexico businessman wants to buy presidential plane for $99 million

MEXICO CITY: Mexico's leftist president-elect wants to promote the jetliner that incorporates the activity, calling it a wasteful luxurious.

Now, he has a possible buyer who wants to use it as an uber-posh taxi for presidents, or guys like Mick Jagger.

This businessman, one Gustavo Jimenez Pons, made the offer Thursday at president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's place of business, the newspaper Reforma reported.

Lopez Obrador, who received a landslide victory in elections in July and will take power on December 1, has said he will never use the aircraft and wants to promote it, and will not use any non-public airplane for that subject.

The executive jetliner was once bought in 2016 by the outgoing president, Enrique Pena Nieto, who spruced it up with subtle communications gear and a different rest space for the president.


In Mexico, promoting the aircraft is noticed as a tall order, given the small market for individuals who want to buy a jetliner.
