AMARAVATI: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has come up with main plans for Andhra Pradesh to make it a 'strategic base' and support its presence in the area in view of the growing strategic significance of the east coast.
Prime amongst them are IAF's plans to arrange a big helicopter coaching facility at Donakonda in Prakasam district.
The different plans put forth prior to the AP government are establishing a drone manufacturing facility in Anantapur district, a cyber safety centre in Amaravati and making Rajahmundry and Vijayawada airports asset positioning bases, best bureaucratic assets mentioned.
"In view of the growing strategic importance of the east coast and China moving fast, the IAF intends to strengthen its presence in the region. Setting up asset positioning bases in AP is part of the strategy," the bureaucrat aware of the deliberations mentioned on situation of anonymity.
IAF recently has a base at Arakkonam near Chennai, whilst the Navy has INS Dega in Visakhapatnam.
"On our part, we have constituted a task team to coordinate with the IAF on these projects. A preliminary ground survey has also been done to identify suitable locations and we have asked the IAF to submit detailed project reports," a best bureaucrat concerned in the process advised PTI.
The IAF, as a part of its option to support vigil alongside the east coast, has proposed the usage of current civilian airports at Rajahmundry and Vijayawada for positioning its assets - fighter and different plane.
Also, IAF helicopters and different plane that could be used for rescue and reduction operations in case of herbal calamities would be situated at those bases.
