NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court collegium of CJI Ranjan Gogoi and the 4 seniormost judges on Monday considered the names of 4 top courtroom chief justices for appointment as judges of the apex courtroom and interacted with them. The SC has seven vacancies within the sanctioned strength of 31 judges, together with the CJI.
The collegium, comprising CJI Gogoi and Justices Madan B Lokur, Kurian Joseph, A K Sikri and S A Bobde, deliberated on the names of Madhya Pradesh HC Chief Justice Hemant Gupta, Tripura HC CJ Ajay Rastogi, Patna HC CJ M R Shah and Gujarat HC CJ R Subhash Reddy and interacted with a few of them within the SC.
However, as some HC chief justices weren't present, the verdict was once deferred and is likely to be introduced on Tuesday, sources mentioned. During the tenure of CJI Gogoi until November 17 subsequent year, there will likely be 4 more retirements — Justices Kurian Joseph (November 29), Lokur (December 30), Sikri ( March 6, 2019) and A M Sapre (August 27, 2019).
