NEW DELHI: Dassault Aviation, makers of Rafale warring parties, has denied Congress's claim that industrialist Anil Ambani had bagged Rs 30,000 crore of offsets in the Rs 59,000 crore deal for the jets with the company's CEO saying the contract with Ambani amounted to just 10% of its obligations.
"Dassault Aviation will carry out with Indian Reliance 10% of the offset obligations as provided under the Rafale contract," Dassault CEO Eric Trappier told information company AFP. The general of Rs 30,000 crore offset contracts are shared via Dassault with three different foreign producers.
The fresh claim via a French site that an inside Dassault file prompt a "trade off" in terms of Ambani being mandatory for the contract referred to the offsets requirement and could also be incorrectly understood, the CEO said. "What is called an offset in English is usually translated into French as 'compensation' or 'contrepartie'. The reference is the contract we signed, called 'offset contract'. With regard to its employees and trade unions, DA uses the expression 'contractual offset obligation' or 'contractual compensation obligation'," he said.
"The Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited joint venture between Reliance and (us) to build a plant in Nagpur will enable Dassault to meet approximately 10% of offsets obligations, the company said in a press release. "We are in negotiations with around 100 Indian companies," Trappier said. It isn't clear if the 10% reference is to the entire value of offsets contracts or Dassault's percentage which might make the amount smaller. On why Dassault chose Reliance Defence instead of HAL, Trappier said the company has determined to determine a long-term presence in India through the three way partnership.
