ATHENS: A outstanding Greek socialist ex-minister was once jailed for graft in a 2003 case connected to a army frigate improve, a court supply mentioned.

In 2006, he won a defamation case towards France's Liberation day-to-day, over an editorial claiming that French defence contractor Thales had put aside a "commission fee" for him to secure a major security contract for the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Thales in the end lost the contract to American contractor SAIC. Papantoniou is the second one member of the robust Pasok celebration to be jailed for graft, following founding celebration member Akis Tsochatzopoulos, who had preceded Papantoniou on the defence ministry.
Tsochatzopoulos was once handed a 20-year prison sentence in 2013 for contract kickbacks but was once released in July on grounds of ill health.
