MADRID: Spain's world-famous opera singer Montserrat Caballe has died in Barcelona on Saturday, a source at the health center where she was once being handled mentioned.
The singer, who was once known as some of the global's biggest voices right through a career spanning part a century, had long suffered from in poor health health and was once hospitalised in mid-September due to a gall bladder problem, local media reported.
"She died overnight at the Sant Pau hospital," the health center source told AFP.
A provider for the singer will probably be held on Sunday at 2pm local time (1200 GMT), with a funeral day after today, Barcelona government mentioned.
Caballe made a world splash when "Barcelona", her tune with Queen singer Freddie Mercury, was the anthem for the 1992 Olympic Games.
Born in April 1933 to a humble circle of relatives in Barcelona, Maria de Montserrat Viviana Concepcion Caballe i Folc studied tune at the Liceu Conservatory in the Catalan capital.
Caballe's big spoil got here in 1965 when she stepped in for some other singer in the notoriously tough role of Lucrezia Borgia in Donizetti's opera in New York.
Her debut went down in opera history as some of the biggest overnight successes ever.
She went directly to excursion the world in a career spanning 50 years, garnering world approval for her creamy voice and dramatic power.
