SAN FRANCISCO: Google stated on Thursday it might end the practice of compelled arbitration for claims of sexual harassment or attack after greater than 20,000 employees staged a walkout to protest how the internet corporate handles cases of sexual misconduct.
Workers at Google had known as for an end to arbitration, amongst different reforms, as a part of the walkout remaining week. The protest came after it was published that Google had given a senior government a $90 million exit bundle even after it discovered he had been credibly accused of sexual harassment.
“As CEO, I take this accountability very critically and I’m dedicated to making the adjustments we need to toughen,” Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, wrote in an email to workforce. “We will make arbitration non-compulsory for individual sexual harassment and sexual attack claims.” Google will overhaul its reporting procedure for harassment, provide more transparency to workforce about incidents reported to it, and dock employees in their efficiency reviews if they don't whole sexual harassment coaching, Pichai stated.
