Iran urges UN to hold US to account over sanctions

UNITED NATION: Iran on Monday instructed the United Nations to hold the United States in command of re-imposing sanction on Tehran, branding the measures illegal and in violation of a Security Council solution.

Iranian Ambassador Gholamali Khoshroo said in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that the "irresponsible behavior of the United States necessitates a collective reaction to uphold the rule of regulation."

"The United Nations and its member-states, in line with the constitution of the United Nations and the international regulation, should resist against those wrongful acts and hold the United States in command of such acts," he added.

President Donald Trump's management re-imposed snactions lifted underneath the 2015 nuclear deal after pulling out of the international agreement reached between Iran, the United States and five different powers: Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia.

The sanctions hit oil exports, transport and banking. Eight waivers to the ban on Iranian oil imports have been issued to China, India, Italy, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey.

The nuclear deal was unanimously endorsed by way of a Security Council solution, this means that it is legally binding.

Diplomats, alternatively, said there were no plans to raise america sanctions at the council in the intervening time.


The Iranian ambassador said the United States "not only blatantly defies the Security Council resolution 2231" that endorsed the nuclear deal, "but additionally audaciously coerces different states to violate the solution."


"Those sanctions are illegal and run counter to the well-established rules" of non-interference in interior affairs and freedom of international business, he added.


During the yearly UN accumulating of global leaders in September, Trump chaired a council assembly that focussed heavily on Iran, laying bare the rift between the United States and different powers at the nuclear deal.


European leaders and representatives from Russia and China defended the deal and instructed Trump to permit them to proceed to uphold it.
