Markets open flat, Sensex slips below 35,000-mark; Nifty below 10,550

NEW DELHI: Markets witnessed a muted get started with the benchmark BSE Sensex down over 100 points to trade under the 35,000-mark on Monday. Sensex plunged 114 points to 34,897, whilst the wider NSE Nifty stood under 10,550 in opening trade.

Soon after, both the BSE and NSE indices received some momentum to trade nearly flat.

Axis Bank, ONGC, State Bank of India (SBI), Sun Pharma and Yes Bank have been a few of the top gainers on the BSE platform, rising up to 2.10 in step with cent. On NSE, sub-indices Nifty PSU Bank and Realty have been main the pack, surging the 1.42 in step with cent.

Trend from global equities, macroeconomic data as well as motion of the rupee and crude oil prices will set the tone for the stock markets in the holiday-shortened week, professionals said.


PMI data for the services and products sector, scheduled to be launched later in the day, would possibly have a concerning market sentiment, they added.


On the opposite hand, Asian shares have been hammered as fears of quicker fee hikes in the United States and uncertainty around the Sino-US trade conflict dented possibility sentiment, whilst sterling jumped to two-week highs on hopes of an orderly Brexit.


Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated 34 paise to 72.79 towards america greenback in early trade on the interbank foreign exchange market on overseas fund outflows. The rupee opened decrease at 72.76 in step with greenback towards earlier shut of 72.45 and dropped further to cite 34 paise down at 72.79 in opening trade.
