NEW DELHI: About a lakh farmers trooped into Delhi on Thursday in the hope of drawing the Centre’s attention to the deepening agrarian crisis in the nation.
The farmers, collaborating in the protest organised by 207 organisations across India, will march from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament Street on November 30 to call for remunerative prices for his or her produce and freedom from debt.
Coming from Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal, the farmers entered in groups from Bijwasan, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar and different issues. Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav led one such team from Bijwasan. Narmada Bachao Andolan activist Medha Patkar, All India Kisan Sabha’s Hannan Mollah and others joined the protest that was held below the united banner of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee.
The march Thursday ended in site visitors snarls on 26km of town roads. “We are announcing sorry to people who were troubled due to site visitors snarls. We have dispensed pamphlets amongst them to in brief explain the farmers’ distress,” Yadav said.
The pamphlets instructed the folks to join them when they march to the Parliament on Friday. Farmer groups also threatened to protest naked if stopped from reaching there.
The pamphlets said that farmers get only Rs 5 per kilo of tomato while shoppers pay Rs 30. “Our life may be cheap. In the closing 20 years, over three lakh farmers have dedicated suicide,” the pamphlet knowledgeable.
The farmers said they call for the convening of the Parliament to pass two bills: one touching on one-time full loan waiver, the opposite for a long-term institutional measure to ensure farmers don't seem to be driven into debt again. They also call for implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations that say the minimum reinforce value will have to be mounted at 50% above the excellent price of manufacturing.
Yadav referred to as the BJP govt on the Centre “probably the most anti-farmer govt ever”. “The protest march is for the liberation of farmers from the spectre of suicides, from various kinds of exploitation propagated by the state and from organised loot and plunder,” he said.
Anish Kumar from Delhi School of Social Work said there's a lack of political will to deal with the agrarian distress. “We joined the protest to provide strength to the voice of the farmers that has been raised at a a very powerful time ahead of next General Election. We want the policy-makers to hear the voice,” Kumar said.
A gaggle of students from Delhi University joined the protest march close to Dhaula Kuan. The farmers claimed that in all marches scholars, artists, attorneys, doctors, and so forth, prolonged reinforce.
A musical night basically in accordance with agrarian, rural and folk issues was organised at Ramlila Maidan the place the farmers retired for the night.
