SURAT: With police intensifying crackdown on smuggling of liquor forward of New Year from union territory Daman into Surat and other cities of south Gujarat, bootleggers are adopting new modes to transport the banned goods. Bootleggers have been nabbed over the last week transporting liquor in ambulance, disguise bottles under heap of textile waste and using sea course to transport liquor.
Three days in the past police seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) price Rs 40,000 from an ambulance in Vapi and arrested two Ankleshwar residents. The accused instructed police that they had come to Daman for a recreational go back and forth and planned to take alongside liquor to make some fast bucks forward of New Year. They were nabbed inside minutes of coming into Gujarat.
Similarly, a truck wearing industrial waste was found to be having 3,576 bottles of IMFL price Rs five.73 lakh from close to Dhamdachi on National Highway 48 in Valsad. The liquor was being transported to Ahmedabad. When police stopped the truck for checking the driving force mentioned that he was wearing bundles of textile waste. On taking a look under the bundles of textile waste cops found containers of IMFL.
Recently cops in Valsad seized boats from coastal space and located that liquor was being transported into the state using sea course.
“Boats are incessantly utilized by bootleggers to transport liquor illegally when there's strict checking on primary roads,” mentioned a police officer from Valsad.
In a recent seizure in Veraval of Saurashtra liquor price Rs 19 lakh was seized from a ship that was brought from Daman, around 400 km away.
