RANCHI: A day after clinching a thumping victory in the Kolebira bypoll, state Congress president Ajoy Kumar on Monday said his can’t unilaterally identify any chief with out consulting the alliance companions.
Responding to a question of TOI, Kumar said if the mahagatbhandhan (grand alliance) finally takes form, the joint management of Congress, JVM, RJD and different like-minded events will take a choice on the issue. He, however, downplayed the projection of JMM’s operating president Hemant Soren as the chief ministerial face for the coming near near meeting elections next year.
Notably, while in quest of support for its candidate (Dhiraj Sahu) for the Rajya Sabha polls earlier this year, Congress had announced to combat the 2019 meeting polls beneath the management of JMM (loosely read Hemant Soren) while Lok Sabha beneath the banner of Congress (Rahul Gandhi).
Hemant, the previous chief minister, now nearly on the helm of JMM affairs, had said Congress, being the national birthday celebration, must clarify on the finer modalities of the grand alliance on the earliest.
“At this point, all that I could say in simple phrases is that Congress can’t unilaterally announce the rest on who will be the face of mahagathbandhan. Before saying any neta (chief), neeti (coverage) must be in place in consultation with all companions. A Common Minimum Programme (CMP) is to be in place. And all alliance companions have to agree on a particular chief,” Kumar said, preferring to not give any close-ended solution.
He, however, reiterated that the Kolebira byelection win is not going to have any bearing on the course of the grand alliance. “In Kolebira, each Congress and JMM fought separately but that could be a passé now. At instances, even in a family, transient problems exist because of sure confusions. But there's completely no drawback with the grand alliance work. Let me guarantee you that,” he said, including that some issues had to be taken care of out on sure seats prior to a final formulation could be made public.
“Out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, confusion is there on two to a few seats. Similarly, in the Vidhan Sabha, it's on 15 to 16 seats. Those are being taken care of out,” Kumar added.
Meanwhile, the newly elected MLA of Kolebira, Naman Bixal Kongari, was once welcomed on the birthday celebration office. Congress MLAs and different senior functionaries were present on the occasion. Pakur MLA Alamgir Alam said all legislators of Congress have unanimously determined to fulfill the governor in a day or two to raise concerns of the agitating para academics, lathicharge on reporters all over the Statehood Day programme in November and murder of a journalist Amit Topno in Khunti on December 3 amongst others.
“We will put up a memorandum on December 26 or 27, every time we get appointment from the Raj Bhavan,” Alam said.
