HYDERABAD: A few independent native cable operators will black out all channels from 10am to 8pm on Saturday to protest the enforcement of a brand new tariff order by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The channel blackout resolution used to be taken during a dharna staged by native cable operators (LCOs) and multi-services operators at Dharna Chowk on Thursday. The cable operators said that barring information channels, different channels would be bring to an end.
Although TRAI has prolonged the closing date for moving to the brand new regime till January 31, the LCOs and MSOs are primarily tough a transformation in tariff orders, relief of the acceptable items and amenities tax charge from 18% to 5% and a decrease MRP of five for native channels.
“Although TRAI has prolonged the closing date till January finish, we're going forward with our protest since our calls for have not been met. There has been no readability at the revenue style. How can we continue to exist on this type of lowered income? Further negotiations are required to have a positive end result in this factor,” said Ok Sunil Kumar, secretary of Telangana Cable Operators Federation.
Following discussions with more than a few service suppliers of the broadcasting and cable amenities sector, the TRAI launched a time table of activities on Friday.
“All existing packs/plans/bouquets to the subscribers will continue uninterrupted till January 31, 2019. No service provider to disconnect any signal/feed to any MSO/LCO/subscriber till January 31, 2019. The supply platform operators (DPOs) to plan their own mechanism to achieve out to the entire subscribers and search choices from subscribers. The DPOs emigrate the entire subscribers to new framework w.e.f. February 1, 2019 as according to choices exercised by them,” read a press release issued by TRAI.
Further, TRAI said that all DPOs have to achieve to 30% of reasonable subscriber base by January 7, 60% by January 14 and 100% by January 21.
