Cop suspended for 'misbehaving' with minor girl inside Jagannath temple

PURI: A constable of Odisha police was suspended for allegedly misbehaving with a minor woman within the Jagannath temple right here on Saturday, a most sensible officer said.

The woman, a resident of Odisha's Jajpur district, had alleged in her grievance that the constable had accompanied her and her oldsters to 'Bhitar Katha' (inner barricade) from 'Bahar Katha' (outer barricade) and "misbehaved" along with her whilst she was praying to the deities on Saturday morning, Puri Superintendent of Police Sarthak Sarangi said.

The woman's commentary were recorded at Singhadwar police station right here and a senior officer was entrusted with the task of wearing out the investigation, he said.

The police constable was discovered to blame in line with "circumstantial evidence", just hours after the lady lodged her grievance, he said.


He might be arrested later, Sarangi said.


The complainant, whilst chatting with reporters outside the police station, had said she would be capable of establish the accused if she saw him.


Asked whether the constable was identified from the CCTV pictures, Sarangi said, "Nothing is clear from the CCTV footage. The constable was found guilty during investigation."


The incident comes a day after a protest through the shrine's servitors right here over alleged attack against one among them through police. The gates of the temple remained close for approximately 12 hours on Friday due to the protest.
